VA Quality Enhancement Research Initiative
VA's Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) leverages scientifically-supported quality improvement methods to rapidly implement evidence-based practices into routine care and improve the quality and safety of care delivered to Veterans. QUERI's mission is three-fold: 1) Scale-up, spread, and sustain evidence-based practices and promising innovations across various health settings, especially in sites with demonstrated gaps in quality or outcomes; 2) Conduct rigorous evaluations in partnership with national and regional health system leaders to optimize programs and policies affecting Veterans; and 3) Promote the application of implementation and quality improvement science to real-world practice across the translation pipeline. QUERI funds 14 national program centers, including the Measurement Science QUERI, located at the San Francisco VA, which aims to integrate measurement science into healthcare for veterans through a number of research and quality improvement projects (see research
portfolio).
QUERI also funds nine national implementation science training hubs, including the Adaptation training hub, located at the San Francisco VA. The goal of the QUERI Implementation Strategy Learning Hubs is to demystify implementation science by offering opportunities for clinicians and researchers to learn how to deploy effective practices using specific implementation strategies (i.e., tools or methods that help existing providers adopt effective practices).
